Watching a disaster unfold from afar can be heartbreaking, especially when it comes with a sense of helplessness amid the chaos. My wife, Hollie Kenniff, has faced this challenge multiple times with proactive compassion, rallying musicians to create compilation albums that raise funds for meaningful change.
In 2011, after a devastating tsunami struck Japan’s coastline, she organized a compilation that quickly raised over $40,000 for relief efforts. Since then, she has spearheaded three more compilations, supporting vital humanitarian causes, including The Trevor Project, the Human Rights Campaign, the National Network for Immigrant & Refugee Rights, the NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund, the Mexican American Legal Defense & Education Fund, the Natural Resources Defense Council, ProPublica, RAINN, and relief efforts following the invasion of Ukraine.
When news of the LA fires reached us, Hollie quickly began organizing a small compilation to raise funds within a week. As she reached out to fellow musicians, the response was overwhelming. What started as a 10-song compilation rapidly grew into an 88-song, three-volume project, with contributions from musicians from LA itself and worldwide, as well as graphic designers, artists, and mastering engineers who all lent their talents to bring it to life. The Canadian label Nettwerk also joined the effort, releasing a version of the compilation to help spread the word even further.
Within a short time, money began flowing to into the organizations, We Are Moving The Needle and GiveDirectly. As of April 4th, $12,396.02 has been distributed to these organizations to assist in efforts to help the people of LA. There is a fourth volume in the works to be released in the near future.
All of the purchases of the compilations can be made through our Bandcamp page. 100% of the profits will be donated directly to the organizations above.
